In this series created in 2015, Entitled “Origins of Fire” I explore the subtle ambiguities of what smoke means. The Idea is that we can obtain information about our subject by hue, saturation or posture or through the Nature of Things as Lucretius speaks about. In this case our subject is smoke and or fire. Smoke is a visual indicator of Fire and we can approximate something about the severity, fuel type and perhaps the source at times given the right context. These are small paintings of those representations, the context has been intentionally removed or hinted at. The idea is to isolate what we see and produce something new but also to reference at our experiences about what we know or what we think we know. Without the Titles What would we imagine about the work?
